My birthday in September saw me gain some new additions for my Of Myth & Legend project which I took great enjoyment in painting. These miniatures are from Foundry Miniatures Greek mythology range.
These three centaurs were a real joy to paint and were somewhat of an experimental process as I had never really painted horse patterns before. With a Google image search providing inspiration I came up with different patterns for each and I am very happy with the end result. I certainly look forward to painting more cavalry in the near future.
The harpies are very characterful and proved to be fairly simple to paint. I’m sure they will be hurtling through the skies of my wargame table very soon!
The results of your equine experiments are excellent! Beautiful work, all around.
Thank you sir! I’m particularly fond of the grey myself.
The grey turned out particulary well. I am also quite smitten by the scenic shot. Very evocative. I normally imagine such creatures attacking the heroes only, not each other.
I recently played a skirmish game in which Jason and his intrepid Argonauts stumbled across a fracas between the centaurs and harpies, they charged in to help dispatch the winged fiends with alacrity!
Sounds suitably epic :).
They look very nice indeed. Especially grey centaur, which is very, very good. I’ve tried to do similar for 6mm horse once but failed miserably.
I can’t even begin to think how to paint patterns on 6mm horses!!?
Perhaps I should give it a second try. Idea was to represent dapple – which is probably one of the easier ones. There is actually so little to paint that some kind of pointillistic, or impressionistic method would work….
My motto is: ‘If in doubt try it out’
