On one of my frequent strolls around the interweb, I happened upon this rather interesting Kickstarter

Heroes-of-Normandie

Needless to say I was quite taken with this cover art and delved a little deeper to find out more. Heroes of Normandie is the brain-child of French company Devils Pig Games, influenced by Hollywood movies (and I imagine Comic books such as Commando) this war game has stunning artwork throughout. The counters are even designed with a birds eye view of the units involved which I rather like, it gives an interesting perspective to a game which looks to be full of character and derring-do!…

Heroes of Normandie Counters

For the princely sum of £45, you will get a copy of the game and pledging higher can get you extra add-ons, etc. Although my humble finances cannot quite stretch that far, I did break my kickstarter cherry by pledging a couple of guineas, simply because I think this is a great idea by these talented chaps from across the pond! And so I rather think I shall leave the last word to them!..

‘The time is summer 1944. The Sun shines on Normandie hedgerows (yes, we write it ‘Normandie’ and not ‘Normandy’ because we are damn French). Gentle wind, fields of bright flowers, and in the background, the romantic staccato of a machine gun fire in the morning. In these typical Normandie landscapes, thousands of men are about to fight. And die. Bravely like heroes, or cowardly like wussies.

Here, at Devil Pig Games, we don’t give a shit about wussies. We are only concerned by heroes, those you see in Hollywood Golden Age war movies : “A bridge too far”, “The longest day”, “The Dirty Dozen”, “Patton”, “Kelly’s heroes” and, more recently, “Saving Private Ryan”, “Band of Brothers” and “Inglorious Basterds”.

Here lies our inspiration, here is what we have to offer : blood and guts’
